HPA Innovation Zone, Rancho Mirage, CA, 18-22nd February: GB Labs will be showcasing their newest tech innovation at this year’s HPA Tech Retreat. Participants will be among the first to see demonstrations of this exciting new technology and to learn more from the developers themselves.

In preparation for the event, GB Labs’ Pre-sales and Solutions Officer, Matt Scott, provided his personal insights on his experiences of HPA and why GB Labs returns each year.

Q – How would you describe HPA Tech Retreat?

M – “HPA is a wonderful opportunity for industry thought leaders and technologists to come together and predict where the industry will be heading over the next year and beyond so that we can have insight on what’s coming next.”

Q – Why does HPA Tech Retreat stand out from other events that you attend in a year?

M – “HPA stands out because it’s possibly the only event that’s more focused on the exchange of ideas than just the promotion of certain technologies. With its unique focus, it encourages discussions on how technology will impact business, what advances are developing, and how we can use them in our own business and day-to-day operations”.

Q – How important is HPA for you and GB Labs?

M – “HPA is important to me and GB Labs since it offers us the opportunity to be part of the conversation about the future of our industry and the direction it’s taking with the people who are best positioned to affect change. For us to be present in those early conversations and to understand not just what our markets needs are, but what our markets needs will be, makes HPA an invaluable experience for me.”

Whilst at the show, GB Labs will be hosting two of the popular breakfast roundtables allowing in-depth discussions and debates on the hot topics within the industry:

‘Keeping cloud sustainable: how to implement a green cloud’ will be discussed on Tuesday Feb 20th at roundtable number 29 and ‘Securing the cache: maintaining security in a hybrid workflow’ is the topic for roundtable 20 on Thursday 22nd.

Q – Why did you pick these specific roundtable topics?

M – “There’s a significant amount of discussion about how power hungry and inefficient the cloud is. Talking about how our cloud architecture meets the needs of a much greener environment and how technologically we can sustain that, is, I believe something that’s going to be very interesting and valuable to forward thinking businesses. The energy cost of the cloud is a major driving factor of why costs are so high, so being efficient here is good for both the environment and the bottom line.

We’re also excited to discuss our innovations around securing media caches, because that’s a major concern to IP owners who now find themselves in a hybrid workflow model. People want to be able to work remotely from home and go into the office when they need to. How do we make that not just efficient and easy, but also how do we protect the IP? How do we secure those caches now that people are working with block level acceleration with Unify Hub? When a company’s IP needs to physically walk out of the door while a project is in progress, it must be secure. How do you do that on your employee’s workstation? We’ve created a very elegant solution and can’t wait to talk about it.”

Q – As someone who not only works for GB Labs but also has an active career as a filmmaker and producer, what are you looking forward to at HPA this year?

M – “For me the personal interaction is the most valuable, and one of the main reasons that I attend. The people you run into and exchange ideas with are all experts in their fields and you gain the most valuable insights and professional relationships from those unexpected encounters. Naturally, the Supersessions are also extremely informative and it’s helpful to know where the industry is heading.”
